The 30-06 has stood the test of time. This cartridge was so good that the military adopted the 30-06 in 1906 hence the name 30-06. 30 for the caliber of the bullet and 06 for the year it was adopted. The cartridge soon gained popularity in the hunting community after the World War 1 and even more after World War 2. The reason the cartridge got so popular was because all of the old Springfield bolt actions from the war. The veterans kept the rifles from the war and hunted with them.
Soon after, rifle companies started to make premium hunting cartridges for all game animals. The cartridge also was popular among handloaders because of all the different bullet weights you could use.
The cartridge was so powerful you could take down any game animals in North America. The 30-06 got a good reputation from the veterans and soon everybody started using the 30-06.
Today, the 30-06 is one of the most popular cartridges on the planet. You can find a gun in 30-06 in most, if not all, gun stores.
