The 223/5.56 NATO is a round that has a flat trajectory and is easy to find all over the world. The 5.56 NATO has been used by military’s all over the world. The round was chosen by military because of its higher compacity in magazines compared to the 7.62 NATO.
The 5.56 is a relatively weak cartridge with only 1200 ft. lbs. of energy at the muzzle, when compared to a more popular hunting round like the 308 with around 2500 foot-pounds. The 5.56 is not a very popular big game hunting cartridge because of its low energy but is very popular among varmint hunters and target shooters.
Because the 5.56 is used by most militaries, it is easy to find, and it’s pretty cheap too. This round is most ideal for varmint hunters, target shooters, and plinking. This round can be fun to shoot, cheap and a good way to sharpen your shooting skills.
