Out of the millions of millions of calibers in the world, it is hard to choose one to hunt with. So I picked my favorite calibers if you were to hunt every animal in the U.S.
223\556
This caliber is considered too small to hunt with by most, but I have found it to be more than capable for hunting. This caliber is my favorite for all varmints.
If you are a small shooter then the .223 could be the best caliber for deer: This is a round that has no kick compared to something like a 30-06. If you are varmint hunting this is perfect for coyotes; this round can take coyotes out to 300 yards. If you want to take prairie dogs this is also perfect for that. You can shoot prairie dogs all day and not have a sore shoulder the next day. Not to mention the fact that you can shoot this round for less than 30 cents a shot.
So the 223/556 makes the list for the cheap price to shoot, The light kick for smaller frame shooters, the perfect round for varmints, and the fact that this round is everywhere in the world and is easy to find.
6.5 Creedmoor
The 6.5 Creedmoor is a super flat shooting cartridge. You can use this not only for hunting but long-range competitions.
If you are hunting deer this round is perfect for that. It has less kick than a 308 making it ideal for small frame shooters. This round can take everything from elk to coyotes. If you shoot long range this is one of the greatest rounds ever.
So the 6.5 Creedmoor makes the list because it’s flat shooting and light recoil with lots of power.
30-06 Springfield
The 30-06 is one of the greatest hunting rounds of all time. This round can take any game animal in America.
For deer, you can use 150-grain bullets, and then for elk or moose, you can step up to 180 or 200-grain bullets. This round is arguably the best hunting cartridge. This round can take deer out to 650 yards and elk out to 550 yards. This round can be loaded with 110-grain bullets and be used for varmint, and loaded with 200-grain bullets and be used for bison. This round if loaded properly can have the energy of a 300 win mag.
So the 30-06 makes the list because it can be loaded from 110 grains to 200-grain bullets to take all game, It can take all game in America, it is easy to find, and cheap to shoot.
